FYI
Over the past few years, I've had several oppurtunities to help out a few local V8 guys. I'm not giving up on the VWs, just having some fun with a different crowd. For the past year or so, I have helped crew on this Pro Mod car shown above and below. This is a 41 willys, driven and built by pro mod builder Tommy Mauney from Shelby, NC. This car probably has around 2400HP. I was there turning wrenches on this beast at Farmington the day it broke the world record. It's nothing like being apart of something like that. This is the quickest V8 Pro Mod with a Powerglide in the world, it ran a 3.96et. I plan on racing more with the vw guys in early 2010, but later in the year I will be helping another local V8 racer. These cars are very similar to a pro stock vw chassis car, in that they have custom made parts and pieces, carbon/fiberglass parts and chromoly construction. .

Jerry Williams from Kannapolis, NC owns this flamed sedan. This car received KSR back half, wing and other suspenion mods, not to mention several KSR power plants. I even get to drive this ride sometimes. I consider Jerry one of my best friends. Jerry also plays a key role in the daily tasks at KSR. Retired from Duke Energy, as an accounts manager, Jerry has lots of experience in multi-tasking and making things happen. Running a business is not always easy, thats why you have to surround yourself with positive thinking people, like Jerry. You just can't climb Mt. Everest without having some form of motivation.

This was the old RLR/Norman Hunt car, that was later sold to Alan Fore in SC. This car won the Bug Out in Manassas on like its second outing. The car was then sold to Denis Elliot from Conyers, GA. This car was then loaded to Puerto Rico, where Denis, myself and long time buddy Mike Martin helped to take it to Runner up against Jorge Diaz at the first Volkimania in Ponce' back in 2002'. What a great time. Not too shabby considering Dennis only had like 8 passes on the car. The car later competed in the SCAT Pro Stock race in conjunction with the IDRC in Pheoniz, AZ.

This time around, Denis totally changed alot of the things on the car to give it a different look and style. First on the agenda was to get rid of type I box and replace it with a Type II with a vertigate. We also designed a one off air intake system, like no other. We also installed some light weight brakes and some lighter wheels. Finally we fabbed up a new decklid with air tray for his new JC power plant.

Here is another car that received some KSR treatment. This car was owned at the time by Steve Shook. At the time the car suffered some major front end damage and needed a new front clip installed, struts, rack, wheels, etc.. The car later ran its best time ever at Darlington. The car was then sold to Alan Fore' and received a new interior, and other minor details, along with a new paint job. Later the body of the car was stolen along with the car trailer in TX and was never recovered. Alan then sold the rolling chassis to Lee Street in SC.

This car received a lot of work at the shop. Basically all Lee had was a rolling chassis and a body. So Lee and myself hung on the new body, hung new doors, fenders, new deck, air tray, frontend. It all came together and worked out fine other than some cam issues that we were having. And then one night at our local track in Jackson, SC , Lee had a turn for the worst. He was on a good pass, the car veered a little to the center line and suddenly took a severe hard right turn into/towards the wall and barrell rolled about 7 times, at about 130 mph. Luckily Lee walked out untouched other than a half dollar sized hole in his helmet from some body tabs. We later found that one of the rear shocks had come apart and leaked shock fluid all over his rear rotor. So all I can say is make sure that you are running a screw together shock and not some over sea's press together shock. We later rebuilt the car again, and now it's getting ready for a new engine combo with a new AutoCraft tranny.

Mike Martin from Lexington, NC.

David and Eddie Hornaday from West Columbia, SC.
This camaro is owned by Dwight Moore out of Sumter, SC. We installed and reworked the front struts to work properly and realigned car. His front suspension needed some attention. I also rewired all of the NOS system, which consists of 3 stages of NOS with timers. The car went from running 4.70s to 4.30s. Dwight competes in the Quick 8 Outlaws. We recently made him a new windshield and refabbed headers.

Ollie Frey along with his dad Helmut, have been a force to reckon with, you've just got to give these guys credit. Together Ollie and I promoted one of the largest East Coast Pro Stock Shootouts at Darlington Dragway in SC. Since then the East Coast scene has remained steady, with lots of excitement. This car too received some chassis updates recently, along with a Bus box, reinforced rear back half, air tray and some custom headers. This car was originally built for David Deckard out of Indiana. Dave ran a 6.22 with the car on one of its first few outings. This car too ran at the first Volkymania in Puerto Rico back in 02'. Ollie also won the CB Performance Pro Stock Nats at Indy a few years back. For more info go here.

Tay Waykowski and Ed Robertson own this Pro Stock Fastback. This is probably one of the nicest cars that I have ever built. The fit and finish on this car is awesome. We basically did everything on this car but the paint, bodywork, engine and tranny. This car received full KSR treatment including chassis, aluminum, pedals, body, tubs, wiring, fuel plumbing, wheelie bars, KSR designed and fabbed decklid and wing. This car was completely put together at KSR and race ready as promised. Lee Street and I even delivered the car to Summerduck Dragway in Va. and I took it down the track for the first few passes. Car ran a 6.50 at 99mph on its first full pass. So you tell me, does that sound like the car was unfinished? Just goes to show you that you can't always believe what you read in some of those magazine articles, I guess it's who you know. Sorry I'm not being bashful, but the facts about the build in the mag were wrong, and they knew it. So hats off to all these guys, because they are definitely a class act.
Later on, after the car was complete with paint and all, Tay wrecked the car at Bristol. I was then called on to repair the damage which was more cosmetic, than anything.

The Dragon Fly is owned by Ron Hubbert out of Florida. I first met Ron at one of our events before he was relocated to Italy with the military. When he came back to the states he was full steam ahead on a drag car. He purchased a chassis from me, and from there he finished the car himself. I can't say enough about Ron's abilities and his attention to details. It's always fun to be around Ron, he is sometimes hilarious. You should hear him imitate engine sounds, like an engine idling, burnouts and full passes. I can't say anymore, because I'm sworn to secrecy.
